The late Kay Collins
Kay Collins died a little over a year ago. A native of Pallaskenry, Co.Limerick, she was daughter of Michael and Kitty O’Sullivan.Swimming played a big part in Kay’s life and she was a qualified swimming instructor at a young age. She also served as secretary of the Limerick Water Safety Association for many years.
On one of his trips to Pallaskenry on farming matters, a young Kevin Collins first laid eyes on the young woman who was to become his wife. She joined the newly established Celtic Ross Hotel as manager of the leisure centre. She also served at the Bandon Leisure Centre.Kay and Kevin wed in August 1999 in Pallaskenry and began married life at the family farm at Gurranes. Kay quickly immersed herself in the business end of farming matters. She also took an active interest in the rapidly expanding Molaga Honey enterprise. The Collins household grew with the birth of Caoimhe, Mira, Riona and Daragh. The family jeep was ever present at horse riding, camogie, ladies’football, swimming, hurling, football and girl guides as the young Collins children were introduced to a cross section of sporting action.
The children attended Timoleague National School and Kay became an active member of the Parent’s Association. Her leadership qualities soon became apparent and she served as chairperson for some time. No job was too big or too small for Kay during this time.
Illness struck Kay during the last five years of her life. She battled on bravely, displaying true Limerick strength and fortitude during that trying time. She lost her battle on the 3rd.of January 2018. The large crowds who attended her removal and funeral mass reflected the enormous impact she made during her all too short a time in Timoleague.
Sincere sympathy is extended to her loving husband, Kevin, her adored children, Caoimhe, Mira, Riona and Daragh, her parents Michael and Kitty, her parents-in-law Gerry and Catherine and the extended O’Sullivan and Collins families. Ar dheis De go raibh si.
