U21 football

The U21B footballers of Ibane Gaels made the short journey to Kilbrittain's new pitch last Saturday afternoon to play Bandon in the quarter final of the west Cork championship. With many U21 fixtures falling victim to the weather, the fine surface and venue was a credit to the local club. With an opening round win over Gabriel Rangers under their belts, Bandon started brightly and went in 0-09 to 0-04 ahead at the short whistle. Ibane came more into the game in the second half thanks to solid defending from Seán Maxwell, Conor Lehane and Con Dineen with an eye- catching performance from young Jack Lawton at centre field. Darragh Holland, Ryan O' Donovan, Conor Lehane got on the scoresheet as the lilywhites lead was whittled down to three points. Liam Colbert struck for a goal after good work from substitute Adam McSweeney, however some missed chances proved costly as Bandon ran out 0-16 to 1-08 winners. The performance of the younger members of the team was an encouraging aspect of thedisplay.
