JAFC semi final
August 20, 2019
Argideen Rangers played St. James in the West Cork Junior A football semi final last Saturday in Clonakilty. The game was only two minutes old when a lengthy stoppage was necessary for an injury to Argideen player Eoin Lawton. The club would like to thank the medical staff present, ambulance crew and Gardaí, Ardfield mentors, Clonakilty GAA and match officials for their assistance. The club also wishes Eoin a speedy recovery from his injury.
The game restarted with a flurry of points from Argideen Rangers. Generally they were on top in a solid first half performance, with good scores from Matthew Lawton, Bill Fleming, and a peach of an individual score from Paudie Butler which helped them to a four points to three halftime lead. Ardfield came more into the game in the second half despite the best efforts of John and Joe Sheehan in the backline. As the game entered the final minutes, it was eight points apiece. However, Argideen failed to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal. And it was Ardfield who capitalized on their scoring chances to win a tight contest by nine points to eight. The club wishes Ardfield the best of luck in their first Junior A Football Championship final.
Argideen now turn their attention to the upcoming intermediate hurling championship game against St. Finbarr’s.
