All Ireland Win
September 11, 2019
An astonishing finish to normal time and an inspirational Cork football win was the only way one could describe events at Croke Park last Sunday. The Cork minor footballers were down one goal with one minute left of injury time to play. They somehow managed to rescue the game with a goal from captain Conor Corbett and power home to win the game 3-20 to 3-14 after extra time. It will go down in the history books as a memorable day for the clubs of Argideen Rangers, Barryroe and Ibane Gaels. A large following from the barony of Ibane were present to support Jack Lawton of Burrane and Ryan O' Donovan of Courtmacsherry as they attempted to capture the first All Ireland Minor football title for Cork since 2000. The game itself was a slow burner with the Galway full forward line causing the Cork back-line all sorts of trouble in the first half. Jack Lawton, operating in his normal midfield position, was soundness personified all through the game, and once again worked himself into the ground as he covered every blade of grass. He was always available to help teammates, retain possession and surge forward to set up countless attacks. His Ibane teammate, Ryan O' Donovan, once again did the business when introduced as a second half sub. He set the tone by scoring 1-2 in extra time to help Cork collect a second All Ireland football title this year after their U20 success.
All in Ibane are very proud of their two medal winners who are great role models for under age players. They both suffered on field setbacks this year, Jack didn't start the first round loss to Kerry whilst Ryan maintained his focus from the bench to perform on the biggest stage when called upon. They both dug deep to rescue the game for Cork and their never say die attitude was heartening to watch. Championship matches against Kerry, Clare, Kerry again, Monaghan, Mayo and Galway means these are well earned All Ireland medals!
