IHC V Sarsfields
September 17, 2019
Argideen Rangers played Sarsfields in the quarter final of the intermediate hurling championship last Sunday afternoon in Brinny. The men from Riverstown/Glanmire started brightly and were up 0-04 to no score within ten minutes. Argideen's sluggish start continued as they trailed 1-04 to 0-02 after 15 minutes. Points from Finbarr Butler and converted placed balls from John Michael and Michael O' Callaghan were the only bright spots of a first half display best forgotten.
After the turnaround, Argideen started to get on the ball more, created chances but failed to convert on too many occasions. A clever assist from Michael O' Callaghan set up Finbarr Butler who billowed the back of the net with five minutes remaining. The team kept battling, as they always do, and reduced the gap to two points but the clock was against them as Sars won by a puck of a ball, 1-13 to 1-10. Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take into next year. Some fine play in goal from Dylan Harrington, great defending from Joe Sheehan, Gerry Crowley, Paudie Butler and substitute Darragh Holland all contributed to keep the Sars attack to a total of 1-13. Up front, Finny Butler, Darragh O' Donovan, Cathal O' Donovan and Michael O' Callaghan carried the game to Sars.
