Community notes May 26th

May 25, 2018

First Holy Communion

Twenty two pupils of Timoleague National School were in attendance at The Church of The Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Timoleague on Saturday morning last to receive their first holy communion. The church was beautifully decorated with art work done by the communicants under the expert supervision of their teacher, M/s Eilis Hurley. The church was full to capacity with family and friends in attendance. The weather clerk was also most kind as the sun shone brightly for this special parish occasion.

Bowling News

Hannah Sexton Timoleague was on the 5 player Irish road bowling team that won European Silver medals in the Pesaro bowling region of Italy over the weekend.   Hannah along with David Murphy, Martin Coppinger, Thomas Mackle and Brian O Reilly made up the Irish team who had travelled to Italy’s Adriatic Coast to take part along with teams from Holland, Germany and 28 Italian teams. Over 250 road bowlers took part over the week-end and the Irish team just missed out on gold by 25 meters to the Italian team with 1760 meters.

Local bowlers Gearoid Harrington, Donal O Donovan and Richie Lawton all had good wins over the weekend in both Lyre and Shannonvale.

Meitheal Continues

The weekly meitheal organised by Molaga Tidy Towns Association is now in full swing as the dead line for judging in the tidy towns competition draws ever so close. A final push is now needed to finish off the jobs that need to be completed and an open invitation is extended to all to give a little time to make the task a little easier for the small group of dedicated committee members. Did not a famous Chinese man once utter the phrase: “many hands make light work”. The same logic can apply in this part of the world also.

Amber Flag for Timoleague NS

Timoleague NS attended the nationwide Amber Flag award ceremony in Oriel House, Ballincollig on May 17th where they were presented with their Amber Flag. The Amber Flag initiative is awarded to those who promote and actively bring about a culture change in the promotion of positive mental health within the educational system and other organisations. The school's Health Promoting Team accepted the award on behalf of the pupils and staff of Timoleague NS along with co-ordinator M/s Eilís Hurley and principal Mrs. Norma Harte.
