Molaga Tidy Towns Association
Locals and visitors alike will have noticed quite a lot of activity by the pontoon of late. It is gratifying to the local tidy towns committee that this great facility is being used and that enthusiasts are enjoying the beautiful natural amenity that we are fortunate to have at Timoleague. How lovely it is to view people on the water as they paddle down stream towards Courtmacsherry. Others prefer to go upstream towards Inchybridge where one can have more shelter to enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Argideen.
The weather is delightful as I write. Who needs the Costa Del Sol when we have our own Costa Del West-Cork. Please feel free to enjoy our facilities but respect the health guidelines that are being imposed for the greater good.
Pontoon Party and Duck Race
A Pontoon Party, incorporating a Fundraising Duck Race is being organised by the local Tidy Towns Organisation on Saturday August 29th. As readers will know, Molaga Tidy Towns hold two fundraising events each year. Due to the present restrictions it was unable to hold its annual bucket collection. The Pontoon Party is being run instead and it promises to be a great family event. A duck race will be the feature attraction during the afternoon. It is many years ago since the last duck race was organised as part of the Timoleague Harvest Festival. Back then it was a wonderful event and captured the imagination of the general public. Yellow plastic ducks will be on sale some weeks prior to the event and patrons can watch the progress of their duck as it swims and floats down the pleasant waters of the Argideen towards the pontoon. Further details will be published nearer the date.
Fundraising Presentation
A fundraising presentation took place at Clonakilty Community Hospital last week. Over the course of the lockdown, Argideen Rangers GAA club organised a fundraising event for a number of worthy causes. Clonakilty Community Hospital was included in the list. A magnificent contribution of over €12,000 was raised. A presentation organised by Cairde Clonakilty took place on Wednesday last and club stalwart, Pat Burke was on hand to formally hand over a cheque of €4,400 to the matron of the hospital. Representatives from the hospital, Cairde Clonakilty and a number of local organisations who held fundraising events were also present. Well done to all involved in this most worthy cause.
