Community Notes August 8th

August 05, 2020

Drive-In Bingo

The open- air, drive-in bingo event at Our Lady’s Well Community Grounds on Sunday evening last was an outstanding success. The weather was ideal and patrons were able to sit out on their deck chairs as they partook in their favoured pastime. The organisers are presently unable to organise the usual Friday night bingo sessions in the Community Hall due to the present Covid – 19 health restrictions and this was a novel approach by the organisers to hold bingo while at the same time abiding by all the rules that are in place at present. It also afforded an opportunity for the organisers to renew acquaintances with their loyal friends and supporters. Timoleague bingo on Friday nights is an integral part of the social lives of many people and it was great to see it return even if the venue and format was not the same as was.

Such was the success of the event that the organisers are drafting plans to hold a similar event in the near future.

The August bank-holiday has come and gone. This year the weather was reasonable and it afforded the many visitors to the locality with an opportunity to savour all the delights that Timoleague has to offer. The village is looking remarkable, largely due to the great work being done by the local tidy towns organisation. The parking area by the waterside near the Abbey was packed to overflow as day trippers took to the walkway to avail of some exercise while at the same time enjoy the scenery of the area. Meanwhile up in the village the businesses reported that they were flat out over the week-end. This was pleasing to hear after the problems that they have experienced over the last few months. Timoleague like all other coastal villages is alive and well and open for business. Long may it remain.
