Fundraising Duck Race:
Molaga Tidy Towns held their fundraising duck race on Saturday afternoon last. Weather conditions were ideal but unfortunately adhering to government restrictions on outdoor gatherings, all other events planned for the evening did not take place. Local water enthusiasts, Fergus Dunlea and his daughters, Eamonn Barry, Kevin Kelly and James Barry went up river to release the ducks and set them on their way. They were joined by two members of Gecko from Courtmac who also gave invaluable assistance.
Prize winning duck owners included: Danny O’Sullivan, Bandon; John Ml. O’Callaghan, Main St.; Mairead Whooley, Timoleague; Robert Leahy, Cregane; Martha Drake, Courtmacsherry; Denise Foley, Timoleague; Kitty Griffin,Barryshall; Brendan Kennedy, Glanmire; Susan Steele, Maryborough.
The Tidy Towns Committee would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all those who contributed so generously to this fundraising event. Rest assured that the funds raised will be put to good use for the continued enhancement of the locality.
A number of weeks ago I made mention of the construction and use of arms dumps and dug-outs. An interesting item was brought to my attention in relation to the safe- keeping of arms during this time. No doubt, other plans were hatched to hid guns and ammunition from “the authorities”. At that time most farmers kept a few sows and banbhs. In one particular farm not far from Timoleague village, guns and ammunition were hidden under the straw bed of the pigs in one of the out houses in the yard. Despite a number of searches, nothing was ever found. It never ceases to amaze that when one’s back is to the wall, the brain can go on overdrive.
Ibane Ladies Football Club
This week the U12's, U14', Minor and Junior squads all participated in match fixtures for Ibane Ladies Football club. First up were the U14 team who were defeated by Bantry on Friday last in their West Cork League fixture. The Minor Ladies were next to take to the field, taking on Keelnameela on Tuesday evening in the West Cork League. This proved to be a great game, played in strong winds with a win for Ibane Ladies with a strong performance put in by all the girls. The Junior ladies played Cloyne on Wednesday evening in Cloughduv in their 3rd championship fixture of the season. This was their first defeat of the season but they came back in fighting spirits for their fourth championship game which was played on Sunday evening against Mayfield, and they emerged as comfortable winners in that game. Last but not least, the U12 girls were defeated by Bandon on Sunday in a non- competitive fixture played in Bandon.
A special shout out to all our U6, U8, U10 and U12 players who showed up in huge numbers for training in the rain for two of the past three Monday nights!
This week the U16 girls take on Keelnameela on Wednesday 9th at 6:45 in Keelnameela. Best of luck in that game girls!
