JAFC Win V Bal
September 17, 2020
The Junior A footballers of Argideen Rangers and Ballinascarthy travelled to Newcestown last Saturday evening to square off in a local derby. Their previous championship meeting, an Argideen win in Barryroe in 2000, is evidence that these occasions don't happen too often. The men from Timoleague started well with points from Oisín Dowling, a long range effort from Seán Maxwell and a superbly taken goal from Andrew Guinevan who ghosted behind the Bal defence from midfield. It could have been more but the crossbar and some wayward finishing put paid to that. Timoleague led 1-04 to 0-01 at half time.
Playing with the wind, Bal got the opening four points in the second half, before Argideen got going properly. Some great play from midfielder Eoin Lawton, who was having a tremendous game, along with Gerry Crowley and Bill Fleming, set up Finny Butler to palm to the net. Timoleague dominated possession in the final quarter and managed out the game with a 2-07 to 1-06 win.
The winners of Kilbrittain and Carbery Rangers await, possibly within the next few weeks.
