JAFC semi final
October 07, 2020
The Argideen Rangers Junior A footballers winning championship run came to an end last week as they fell at the semi- final hurdle to Carbery Rangers. The game was played under lights in Aughaville on Thursday of last week. Argideen started brightly and had the majority of possession for the opening quarter but failed to convert some scoring chances both from frees and from play. Andrew Guinivan was superb in the middle, catching some great ball, including an acrobatic one -handed catch from a kick out, and setting up attack after attack. Dylan Harrington converted a well worked point from play but Rosscarbery came into the game more, used the long ball effectively and led 5 points to 2 at half time.
It was nip and tuck for the third quarter but the concession of a goal was crucial in a tight game like this. Argideen threw everything at Carbery Rangers for the last quarter and dominated possession. Wave after wave of attack from Paudie Butler, John Sheehan, Darragh Holland, Gerry Crowley, Bill Fleming and others led to scoring opportunities. Sean Maxwell and Matthew Lawton converted from play with Darragh Holland converting from placed balls. It was however not enough as the game finished with a 1-06 to 0-06 score-line in favour of Ross.
Team; Dan Hurley, Darragh O' Donovan, John Sheehan, Cathal O' Donovan, Gerry Crowley, Paudie Butler, Darragh Holland, Eoin Lawton, Andrew Guinivan, Matthew Lawton, Andrew McCarthy, Dylan Harrington, Bill Fleming, Brian Hennessy and Oisín Dowling. Subs used: Finbarr Butler and Seán Maxwell.
The players and management can hold their heads up high after rebuilding their season following a disappointing opening round defeat to Castlehaven. Three championship wins playing entertaining football led to a second semi- final in successive years. Something to build on for next year.
