AGM

January 26, 2021

Argideen Rangers GAA club held their annual AGM (virtually) last week. Club chair, Angela O' Donovan welcomed the large virtual gathering and outlined the events of an unprecedented year. She highlighted the wonderful community spirit in challenging times. She was the first of many on the night to pay tribute to recently departed club Vice President Mick Foley. Attendees were loud in their praise and fondly recalled memories of a man who did so much for the club and community.

In her comprehensive report, secretary Sheila McCarthy detailed the major activities of teams, fundraising efforts and the large volume of unseen work that keeps the club running smoothly. Treasurer Donie O' Callaghan outlined the difficulties in organising the weekly lottery draw and the normal fundraising events in 2020. Adult and underage teams had truncated seasons with the normal costs associated with preparing these teams yet the club was unable to properly raise funds to finance these preparations. He highlighted the positive response to lotto sales in recent months (especially online sales) despite the majority of local business in lockdown. He also appealed to club members to support the recently launched Rebel Bounty draw by the Cork County Board. As an intermediate club, Argideen Rangers will have to sell 70 of these annual tickets, with 100% commission on ticket sales above these minimum sales targets.

Finally, underage club chair, Cathal Dineen, outlined the fantastic coaching taking place right up to Christmas and the various activities of underage grades from under six years of age and up. Many were loud in their praise of the many excellent coaches and volunteers giving so much of their free time to help out with training, games, blitzes and other events.
