Churches Re-Open
Masses were celebrated at both Timoleague and Clogagh on last week-end with congregation present. The same guidelines are in operation as pre Covid lockdown. Stewards are present so that Covid 19 guidelines are observed. Week day masses have also recommenced at Timoleague on Tuesday and Thursday at 9.30am and at Clogagh on Wednesday and Friday also at 9.30am.
Fr. Hickey PP can be contacted directly for baptismal bookings and anniversary masses at (023)8839114 or at (086) 8334562. If people would like to have an anniversary remembrance included at mass, they should include the name and address of the deceased person on a note and place it in the letter-box located at the sacristy door at either Clogagh or Timoleague churches by Thursday at 5pm with a contact name and phone number also included.
Dairy Farming
At a time when farmers feel that they are at the receiving end of bad news and are under pressure from a whole range of sources, dairy farmers in West Cork can, at least, be consoled by the confirmation that they are being paid top prices for their milk.
An independent analysis carried out by the IFA began in 2019 and was repeated in 2020 with very similar results. Drinagh Co-Op emerged as the highest paying Co-Op in the country in both years. It was closely followed by the other West Cork Co-Ops of Bandon, Lisavaird and Barryroe.
Ger Lehane of Timoleague, IFA Dairy Representative for West Cork, complimented the four Co-Ops which make up the Carbery Group. He said that a dairy farmer producing 500,000 litres of milk per year for Drinagh Co-Op would receive €16,000 more for his/her efforts than a similar farmer supplying the same quantity of milk to a processor at the bottom of the price league.
Litter Pick
Timoleague Tidy Towns are organising a “Spring Clean-Litter Pick” on Friday night May 28th. This year the usual spring Clean-Litter Pick did not go ahead as planned due to restrictions but now as these have eased somewhat,it is planned to hold it on the week-end of the 28th – 29th of May. If you would like to participate you would be most welcome to gather at the Abbey Car-Park behind The Timoleague Medical Centre at 7pm on the Friday night. If that night is not convenient then you are free to organise your own group at an alternative time and liaise with the secretary Sheila Walton at (086) 3181724. All local organisations are being contacted to take an active role in this initiative.
Before the advent of Covid 19 the litter pick was a tremendous community event, with young and not so young actively involved. While social distancing should be adhered to, groups may feel happier to pick their own time and place for this worthwhile community project. Please liaise with the secretary so that a handle can be kept on the arrangements. Looking forward to another great turn out for this community enhancement initiative.
