Timoleague and Clogagh Parish
By means of the new donate button on the parish website, Timoleagueparish.wordpress.com, offertory collections can be accepted via credit card on a one off basis. It can also be set up to recur automatically. Parish finances have been reduced over the last 18 months however, the running costs of the parish have not done so. If you are not attending any of the parish masses at present due to concerns over Covid and are availing of the on line masses at the weekend then you can contribute by this new format. For updates on parish events check the parish facebook page.
All-Ireland for Millie
As we are on parish matters, a huge congratulations to Millie Condon and her under 16 Cork team on winning the All-Ireland Camogie title on Sunday last. This was an honour richly deserved by the multi-talented Millie and the fact that Kilkenny were the vanquished added to the worth of the famous victory. Bon fires were lit at Kilshinehan Cross to welcome back the captain and her team at mid-night on Sunday. They were accorded a heroes welcome as they went down the hill and crossed the bridge to reach the Condon home. The Burrane air must contain “that something extra” when it comes to All-Ireland titles as the sporting males and females of the historic townland can rub shoulders with the best in the country in both football and camogie circles. Let’s hope that Jack Lawton can make a full recovery from his recent serious injury and grace the playing fields again in the not too distant future. The sky is the limit for Millie and she carries the very best wishes from all parishioners as she begins her journey to sporting stardom.
Ibane Ladies Football
Well done to the Junior Ladies team who had a comfortable win over Mayfield in a sun soaked Timoleague last Sunday evening. It was a perfect evening for playing and watching sport, and the content was thoroughly enjoyed by players, coaches and spectators.
Our U12 ladies travelled to Baltimore on Monday evening to take on Ilen Rovers. The girls battled hard but Ilen Rovers were victors on this occasion.
Well done to our U10 girls who played their second challenge game against neighbours Clonakilty on Monday evening. Thank you to Clonakilty for a great evening of football!
Lots more excitement coming up with the following fixtures in the week ahead:
- Minor Ladies: Thursday, 22nd July in Kinsale against Kinsale at 7:30pm
- U14 Ladies: Friday, 23rd July at Church Cross against Ilen Rovers time tbc
- Junior Ladies: Sunday, 25th July in Timoleague against St. Finbarr’s at 7:30pm
Timoleague Duck Race
The ducks are ready to go on Saturday evening next at Timoleague. The annual fundraiser organised by Molaga-Timoleague Tidy Towns Association is proving to be a most popular event and has gripped the imagination of the general public. The ducks will be released on The Argideen just above the Bandon Bridge between 6.30pm and 7pm. as the tide dictates. Patrons who have not yet purchased a duck can still do so as ducks will be on sale at €5 each in Timoleague on Friday and Saturday next at both the village centre and at Foley’s Centra.
Those who wish to attend the race are asked to behave in a sensible manner as Covid restrictions should still be foremost in peoples’ minds. Also, as the viewing points are near a busy public road, onlookers are asked to observe caution due to passing traffic.
Costa del West-Cork
The soaring temperatures have helped to swell the number of visitors and tourists to Timoleague and surrounding areas. Due to the present Covid pandemic, many are reluctant to head for sunnier climates abroad and are holidaying at home. Who would want to travel to the Costa del Sol when we have Costa del West-Cork at home. The local well-known beaches of Dumworley and Broad Strand are crowded with day trippers and parking is proving to be the biggest obstacle. Blind Strand and Simon’s Cove are equally busy.
The increase in visiting numbers is also good for local businesses. The two bars in Timoleague, Pad Joe’s and Charlie Madden’s are experiencing brisk trade and Monk’s Lane is also thriving. Centra is also experiencing enormous foot flow at present. The opening up of indoor hospitality from next Monday will enhance further the commercial aspect of all businesses. They have had a long period of closure and they deserve the support of the general public over the coming few months as they strive to claw back lost income. The beautiful weather is an added bonus to all and long may it continue.
