Ministerial Visit
Heather Humphreys, Minister for Justice, Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands made an official visit to Timoleague on Monday morning last. She visited The Church of The Ascension and shealso opened the Argideen Valley Trail, which links the villages of Ballinascarthy, Timoleague and Courtmacsherry. The trail is on minor roads less travelled and has signage outlining the many points of interest on route. Among the historical aspects highlighted are the Cistercian Abbey at Abbeymahon; Timoleague’s Franciscan Abbey; The Local Railway; the Courthouse at Mill Street; The Church of Ascension and The Church of the Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary; Inchybridge; Clogagh Village and Skeaf Railway Halt; Mounteen Castle; The Cottage of The Wife of The Bold Tenant Farmer and The Replica of The Model T Ford Car at Ballinascarthy. The local flora and fauna, bird life and marine habitat is also given honourable mention as is Courtmacsherry Bay with its Special Area of Conservation (SAC) status.
The total distance of the trail is 15km. as the walker travels through time following the waymarking red arrows.It is graded as a moderate walk and will take from 3 to 4 hours to complete. The total ascent is approximately 200m. Dogs are allowed but have to be on a lead.
Those who use it are asked to be considerate of others, to respect farm animals and wildlife and to dispose of any waste properly. Enjoy the walk on the Argideen Valley Trail and experience the best of what our lovely unspoiled countryside has to offer.
Road Bowling
In Crookstown last Saturday, Ellen Sexton and Laura Sexton both won the Munster U14 andU12 Road Bowling Finals.Bowling up the hill, Ellen had a 1 bowl win over Rihanna Collins from the North Cork Region.
Laura bowling back, won by the bowl also over Kayla Healy, the Gaeltacht regional winner from Ballyvourney.
The previous week Ellen won the Munster U16 final over Ciara Allen Newcestown and now goes forward to the All- Ireland U16 final in Ballyvourney in October.
David Hegarty, Lyre won over John O Driscoll Clonakilty in Barryshall in the Timoleague Novice Tournament.
Successful Duck Race
The annual duck race organised by Timoleague-Molaga Tidy Towns Association on Saturday evening last was an outstanding success. The beautiful sunny weather added to the occasion and the large crowd who gathered to view the spectacle gave a great “feel-good” atmosphere to the well supported event. A big thank you to all who gave of their time to sell duck in the lead up to the race and to the vast number of people who bought ducks. The organising committee would also like to express its thanks to those on kayaks and boats who helped greatly in the smooth running of the event.
The result of the race is as follows: 1st. prize: Anthony Hunt, Ann-Marie Connolly and Elaine Egan; 2nd. Prize:Ollie Hunt, Rosie Harte and Caroline O’Shea; 3rd. Prize: Eileen Foley, Angela Veldman RNLI and Theo Brassil
