Road Closure
The main road from Timoleague to Bandon, R602 at Scardone is closed at present from 8am to 8pm to facilitate road works between Kilshinehan cross-roads and the Kilbrittain turn off further up at Knockbrown. The road will re-open on Friday, October 15th. Any inconvenience caused is regretted but the end result will be of benefit to all road users.
Road Bowling
Wayne Parkes and Hannah Sexton representing Ireland won the European Youths Triple Crown in Ballincurrig, Midleton with a close 2 meter win over the German team and 1 bowl win over the Dutch team.
On Saturday last Hannah added the Intermediate Ladies title to her U18 title, In a unique year for the Sexton sisters, Laura won the Munster U12, Ellen won the U14, Margaret the U16 and Hannah the U18/Intermediate outright.
Next week also sees the SW Junior A Bowling Final in Barryshall between Alex O Donovan and Wayne Parkes.
Timoleague Venue
Kilbrittain and St. Oliver Plunkett’s played at Timoleague in the West-Cork Junior “A” football championship on Sunday week last. Plunkett’s seemed to be set for victory, but a game is never over until the referee blows the final whistle. Kilbrittain reserved their best for last and scored a goal and a point in time added to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat winning on a score line of 1-7 to 1-6.
Maire Ni Shithigh Event
Just a reminder that John Spillane will perform at The Anchor Bar, Courtmacsherry on Saturday evening next Oct. 9th as part of the Scoil Fomhair Mhaire Ni Shithigh. He will be accompanied by Michael O’Brien of Butlerstown and compere for the evening will be Lilian Smith of RTE Radio 1. It begins at 6pm. Rumour has it that John will perform a song inspired by Sean O’Coileain’s epic poem on Timoleague Abbey, Machnamh An Duine Dhoiliosaigh.
