Hurling quarter final
November 02, 2021
Argideen Rangers and Ballygarvan met in the quarter final of the intermediate hurling championship last Saturday in Ballinspittle. On a perfect sod with autumnal sunshine, Timolague started brightly with a Seán Walsh point from an acute angle. Further points came from impressive wing back Séan Henchion, Cathal O' Donovan, Finbarr Butler and a couple of converted Bill Fleming frees. With a commanding full back line and intelligent play from Darragh Holland and Dan Hurley, it meant Argideen led 6 points to 2 at the first water break. However, a disastrous second quarter for Timoleague, guilty of overplaying the ball and not working as hard as their opponents, (who outfought and outscored us 8 points to 1) would ultimately decide the game. The half time break saw Ballygarvan lead 0-10 to 0-07. Brian Hennessey came off the bench and, as he has done numerous times down the years, cleverly finished to the net after great work from Finbarr Butler and Bill Fleming along the endline. Game on as Argideen entered the final quarter one point down. However, despite a brilliant John Michael O' Callaghan goal from a twenty one yard free, Argideen could not match Ballygarvan's determination and ability to convert long distance frees and points from play and their season ended in a one point loss, 2-11 to 0-18. Team; Dylan Harrington, Darragh Holland, Joe Murphy, Dan Hurley, Colin Smith, Paudie Butler, Seán Henchion, Matthew Lawton, Cathal O' Donovan, Bill Fleming, Darragh O' Donovan, Andrew Guinevan, Fergal Walsh, Finbarr Butler and Seán Walsh.
