Bronze Medal for Timoleague
The national tidy towns awards announced at the RDS on Friday last contained great news for the local tidy towns committee. Timoleague was awarded a bronze medal and this national recognition is a most pleasing vote of confidence for the efforts of the local residents and dedicated volunteers who go well and above the call of duty when it comes to ensuring that the village is kept in pristine condition for the enjoyment of all. While there was no competition last year, the marks awarded this year of 340 represents an increase of 9 from the 2019 total. A brief look at the adjudicator’s report is worthwhile and one can read an outsiders unbiased account of the state of play with regard to Timoleague and its environs.
Community-Your Planning and Involvement
This shows a caring community working together to ensure all its members are included in their activities and do not feel isolated in the community. Well done on your work for the award. Your committee of ten members and a number of volunteers engage well with the County Council, Councillors, local agencies and local businesses for funding and support with the projects that you develop to enhance the village. Biodiversity Ireland and GIY assist with helpful hints. Communication to the wider community is through meeting if possible or through social media. The local newspaper is also helpful for communication. A good relationship between the school and the Tidy Towns is also in place helping each other with clean ups and other projects. The Tidy Towns and the national school have agreed a partnership to set up and run a shared community garden which will take part in the Community Classroom 2020 initiative. This project is close to the school and all running costs for the project will be shared equally. The village has shown great commitment to the competition having taken part over sixty years and the Tidy Towns unit are grateful for your participation. The competition has given the community a purpose to improve the village which it continues to do with the many projects completed. There is good community spirit and a good working relationship with all groups which is commended. (To be contd.)
Road Works
Some more much needed road works have been completed in Timoleague. Already the R600 approaching the village has been attended to and a new surface had been completed. The latest improvements of resurfacing the road under the Abbey have been finished. A new Macadam surface has been laid and some minor works to seal manholes has also been undertaken. Further works at Mill Street and Main Street where both streets will be resurfaced will be undertaken in the new year.
