World Day of Prayer
A World Day of Prayer ceremony will take place at The Sacred Heart Church Courtmacsherry on Friday night, March 4th. beginning at 8pm. An open invitation is extended to all to attend.
Walk with Charlie
The recent appearances by Charlie Bird on the Late Late Show have captivated the general public in a most unique way. Charlie spoke publicly about Motor Neuron Disease which he has been diagnosed with recently. The popular political correspondent in RTE who was part and parcel of all Irish homes for so long was enjoying retirement when he noticed that all was not well some time ago. When he got the diagnosis, he took it on the chin and came out fighting.
He has earmarked Saturday, April 2nd. as the date he plans to climb Croagh Patrick as part of a nationwide fundraiser to aid research in finding a cure for this life altering illness. Many have pledged to join in but because of the unprecedented response, numbers are restricted in climbing The Reek on that day. Some from Timoleague are planning to do the climb on the following day, Sunday, April 3rd.
Local community activist Gerard Madden is organising a local walk-climb on Sunday, April 10th. in Timoleague for those who would like to be part of this nationwide campaign. His late father Charlie suffered similarly to Charlie Bird before his death in January 2017 and Ger is launching “One Charlie to Another Charlie” event to raise funds for The Motor Neuron Association and Pieta House. An organised walk will begin under The Abbey on the 10th of April at 3pm and follow the Abbeymahon Loop walk – the longer route. For those who are adventurous, the hill at Abbeymahon is included and those hardy walkers can proceed on and exit at the junction before the entrance to Courtmacsherry. They have the flat Railway Walk back to Timoleague to finish the trek. An alternate route for those who may feel more comfortable on the flat is to follow the Abbeymahon Loop as signed with the exit at Peter’s Point and back on level ground to Timoleague.
Sponsorship cards will be available locally and further details will be posted nearer the date. Your support for this worthy cause would be greatly welcome. You will be raising much needed funds for the named charities in tandem with getting out in the fresh air and availing of some health exercise. Keep an eye on the Timoleague Notes and also check Facebook for further updates.
Storm Damage
Timoleague escaped the worst aspects of the recent storm Eunice. No major damage was done to property but a number of trees were knocked. Electricity supply was out in the greater Timoleague area and restoration took longer in certain areas than others. Phone and internet coverage were also disrupted.
Ploughing Match Postponed
The annual Timoleague ploughing match also fell foul of the weather conditions on Sunday last. It will be re-scheduled at a later date.
