Community Notes March 26th

March 24, 2022

Timoleague Daffodil Day 2022

Friday 25th of March is Daffodil Day for the Irish Cancer society. The community of Timoleague are asked to come together to raise money by supporting a 12 hour spin-a-thon where one can spin for 30 minutes or 1 hour (10am to 10pm) on Friday March 25th. Please contact Donie O’Callaghan, Karen Nyhan or Grainne Murphy to book your bike and time slot on Friday 25th.

Daffodils will be on sale in the village on Friday March 25th. Donation boxes will be in Timoleague Post Office and at Foley’s Centra. The Irish Cancer Society provides vital services to support those affected by cancer throughout Ireland. Please donate what you can to this worthy cause.

Special Collection for Ukraine

The Irish Bishops have asked for a Special Collection to be taken up at masses on the weekend of 26/27 March to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and especially the families and children who have had to flee their homeland in advance of the Russian invasion. The proceeds of this Special Collection will be directed to Caritas Internationalis, which is the helping hand of the Church on the ground in Ukraine and the surrounding region. Please be as generous as you can. Thank you.

Bishop Visits Timoleague

Bishop of Cork and Ross, Dr. Fintan Gavin will make his first pastoral visit to the parish of Timoleague and Clogagh this weekend 26/27 March. Bishop Fintan will celebrate mass in Clogagh on Saturday at 6pm and Timoleague on Sunday at 11.30pm. He is looking forward to meeting parishioners after both masses. The Parish welcomes Bishop Fintan.

West Cork Rally Returns

After a number of years absent, the ever- popular West Cork Rally made a spectacular return to the roads of the greater Clonakilty area last week-end. The weather was suitable for the greater outdoors over Saturday and Sunday and the huge crowds that travelled to the area was a major boost to the local business community after the down turns suffered due to covid over the past two years. The local residents embraced the event once more and it is one of the most popular fixtures on the sporting calendar. The roads around Timoleague are a favourite always on the circuit and it was great to see so many spectators avail of the occasion and also experience the beauty that Timoleague has to offer. Long may it continue.
