Litter Pick
The annual litter pick organised by Timoleague Tidy towns Association will take place on Good Friday, April 15th. beginning at 5pm. This community initiative rids the approach roads to the village of a lot of unsightly litter that is regularly discarded on the ditches and roadsides as you enter and leave Timoleague. Much of the blame for this unsocial behaviour can be attributed to motorists who carelessly toss empty containers and bottles out of car windows after having their fill of the contents.
Groups can organise with friends and neighbours to pick up along their own area. If the organised time of 5pm does not suit, another time can be chosen. Red plastic bags together with Orange Hi-Viz jackets for the litter pick can be collected from Tidy Towns chairman, Donal Barry at his residence in Main Street. Donal can also be contacted at (087)673 7062 to arrange collection.
Volunteers should note that all full bags are to be left at the Community Hall as they will be collected by KWD, joint sponsors with Cork County Council, on Saturday morning. The general public, though they may not be members of the tidy towns group are most welcome to join this very worthy annual community project which helps to promote all that is good about our little village.
Easter Egg Hunt
After an absence of a few years the ever-popular Easter Egg Hunt will be held once more at both churches on Easter Sunday. This event is organised by the local Pastoral Council and is a big hit with the younger generation. It will take place on the grounds of both churches in the parish after the 10am mass at Clogagh and at the conclusion of the 11.30am mass at Timoleague. It is confined to children under 14. Those over that age who may be envious can buy their own Easter eggs! It is a fun event and rules apply.
Climb for Charlie
Following on from the climb of Croagh Patrick, a local walk and climb took place at Timoleague on Sunday afternoon last. Organised by Gerard Madden who had climbed The Reek the previous week together with his fellow Timoleague climbing companions, Ogie Crowley and John Martin Hurley, he led a local group of walkers on a Climb for Charlie which had personal significance as his father Charlie Madden had suffered from Motor Neurone for some time before his death. The weather was blustery but dry as the walkers set out at 3pm from Under The Abbey heading towards Abbeymahon. Some did the short route, others did the in between one and the brave and the bold took on the challenge of the longer and steeper route. All returned safely to base camp after their mid-afternoon exertion. The generosity of the walkers was outstanding and as of Monday night some €3,200 had been raised with a pledge of more to come. People can contribute by contacting any of the above organisers or through a Go Fund Me page available on Facebook. Sincere thanks to all those who took an active part in the walk/climb and those who contributed so generously to the fund.
Tidy Towns Grant Funding
In the recent allocation of grant funding announced by Cork County Council under Community Contracts, Amenity Funds and Capitol Funding, Timoleague Tidy Towns was successful in securing grant funding of €3,500 for projects to be undertaken this year. This is a major vote of confidence to the local community organisation and the money granted will be put to good use for the benefit of the locality.
