Australian Champion with Local Roots
News has just reached us of a most fantastic achievement by Caleb Cashman in the Australian Swimming Championships. A member of the Bathurst Swim Club, Caleb won the under 14, 400m individual medley in a time of 4:50:63. This was described as a gutsy performance by young Caleb and his strength at the breaststroke was a major contributary factor in his wonderful victory.
That gutsy performance should not be of any great surprise when one considers that his father Noel Cashman of Clogagh blazed a trail in hurling and football with Argideen Rangers before he set off for a life “down under”. They say that the apples never fall far from the tree and who are we to disagree with that theory. It is a mere coincidence that the victorious Argideen Rangers team of 1996 of which Noel was a key player is gathering at Monk’s Lane this week-end to celebrate the great county final win over Fr. O’Neill’s at Pairc Ui Chaoimh in junior hurling. Caleb’s victory will no doubt be a topic of conversation among his father’s former team mates. Australian Champion has a lovely ring to it. Congratulations to all the extended Cashman family and to his proud grandparents, Helen and Con especially, on this magnificent achievement.
Hospice Coffee Morning
Well known local personality, Mo is hosting a fundraising coffee morning in aid of Marymount Hospice on Saturday next April 30th. from 11am to 4pm. Mo is organising this in appreciation of the wonderful care that her husband, Jim received there. The event will be held at her home at Ballycatten, Timoleague. An open invitation is extended to all and any support will be greatly appreciated.
Daffodil Day Thank You
A most sincere thanks to all who helped and supported Timoleague’s Daffodil Day Fundraiser Spin-A-Thon at the village centre recently. The sun shone brightly for this sociable event the got the community spinning for a great cause. The generosity and donations from everyone in the local community and beyond was really amazing. €6,150 was raised between on-line donations and the collection in the village on Friday March 25th for The Irish Cancer Society. A big thank you to everyone.
Street Resurfacing
Mill Street and Main Street are getting a major upgrade as a complete resurfacing of both streets is being undertaken at present. It is a job well overdue and is being done as part of an upgrading of The Wild Atlantic Way. The remaining streets now look even worse but those who know about these things tell us that the other roads will be attended to next year when more funds become available and Timoleague village will benefit greatly from a village renewal scheme.
