Coffee Morning Thanks
The chief organiser, Mo Tobin and her close friends wish to thank most sincerely all those who supported the coffee morning fundraising event in aid of Marymount Hospice at Mo’s home on Saturday last. The attendance was remarkable and the weather was also extremely kind as those in attendance mingled in the great outdoors in the beautiful garden. Mo speaks so positively of the wonderful care that her late husband Jim received at Marymount and the funds raised are a little token of appreciation in return.
Street Works Completed
This week sees the completion of the resurfacing of the streets through the village, namely Mill Street, Main Street and Church Road. The lining of the new surface is being undertaken as we write and the surface around the manholes is also being attended to. As one long term resident of the village remarked, the streets are now as smooth as a new pin. This was a job long overdue and all that remains now is for the remaining streets to be afforded the same care and attention.
Tidy Towns Project
Timoleague Tidy Towns Association had sought funding from Cork County Council in the form of amenity grants and were most thankful when given the green light to proceed. The project chosen was the erection of large stones on the approach roads to the village with a welcome to Timoleague in both English and Irish. The Irish version of the name, Tigh Molaga is that used locally and I will write on that aspect of the translation shortly. The stones were sourced from The Bower by kind permission of the owner, Micheal O’Mahony and his wife Phyllis. Micheal was extremely supportive of the project from day one and the local committee were committed to having local stone used for the project. The stones were picked out by local Monumenta lContractor and Funeral Director, John Michael Foley who was responsible for the cutting, polishing and engraving. He also erected the stones in position, one at the entrance to the village from the Clonakilty road and the other at the old telephone box as one enters Timoleague from the Bandon and Kinsale roads. Later in the year, two other place-name stones will be put in position on two other approach roads.
Attached is a photo of the recently erected place name stones at the entrance to Timoleague.
