League hurling V Meelin
May 24, 2022
Argideen Rangers hurling team visited Meelin in North West Cork last Saturday. At close to 200km of a round trip it was quite possibly one of the longest away trips in the Cork county hurling league. Playing into a strong breeze on an elevated pitch, Argideen started brightly with Philip Flynn firing over a few long -range frees. John Michael O' Callaghan and the hard working Darragh O' Donovan also got on the scoresheet with Meelin leading by 10 points to 8 at half time. A feature of the first half were two impressive performances in the corners - Charlie Dineen at corner forward and Finbarr Butler at corner back. Argideen started brightly in the second half with good defending from Ger Crowley, Bill Fleming and Cathal O' Donovan. Finbarr Butler continued to impress but over- elaboration around the middle led to a goal by Meelin against the run of play. Coming into the last 5 minutes, some good pressure from Fergal Walsh and Matty Lawton led to a fine long -range score by Colin Smith. A last minute sideline ball was collected by Darragh O' Donovan and he soloed along the end line and goaled to set up a grandstand finish. Cathal O' Donovan won the resultant puckout and drove over a point from midfield to win the two league points. Final score 1-18 to 1-17.
