Final League Game
Argideen Rangers travelled to Shanagarry in East Cork to play Russel Rovers in their concluding game of the Red FM Division 3 hurling league last Friday evening. On a beautiful evening for a game in a picturesque setting overlooking Ballycotton Bay and lighthouse, the away side were quick out of the traps with a couple of long range frees from Philip Flynn and a goal from Paudie Butler. The home side replied with two superb individual goals and the game continued at a frenetic pace. A deft flick to the net from corner forward Charlie Dinneen, and a long -range point from Matty Lawton, after he collected a short puck out from Dylan Harrington, were further highlights as Argideen led 3-09 to 2-09 at half time. Superb defending from Seán Henchion, Ger Crowley and Matty Lawton led to early second half scores, including a well worked point from Philip Flynn. Hard working midfielder Cathal O' Donovan also got his name on the score sheet and he was well supported by the industrious Darragh Holland and Finbarr Butler. Smart play from wingback Fergal Walsh led to further scores as John Michael O' Callaghan finished with two long range booming points from play as Argideen ran out 3-20 to 2-19 winners. The players now turn their attention to football league action for the next few weeks before championship in both codes in July.
