JAFC V Randal Óg
September 06, 2022
Argideen Rangers and Randal Óg played out a thrilling match last Sunday in Ahiohill. The JAFC quarter final tie also doubled up as the division 3 league final. Argideen, with the aid of a stiff breeze, opened brightly with points from Seán Walsh, Bill Fleming and Eoin Lawton. The Timoleague backs played very well and limited Randal Óg to three first half points from frees to turn around with an eight points to three points half time lead. The lead narrowed to two points in the third quarter as ill discipline meant Argideen were down to 12 players for parts of the last quarter with Randals dictating the game. The game was level with time almost up as a crucial Lorcan O' Leary point secured extra time. Substitute Darragh Holland rattled the back of the net in the first minute of extra time after great play by Ger Crowley and Seán Walsh. Holland added a further free to give Timoleague the cushion and close out a gritty win in torrential downpours on a score of 1-14 to 0-11. Superb showings by Finbarr Butler, Paudie Butler, Seán Walsh, Lorcan O' Leary and Fergal Walsh were other notable performances. Captain Ger Crowley accepted the league shield after the game with Tadhg MacCarthaigh next up in the semi final.
