Tidy Towns Success
Three members of the Timoleague Tidy Towns Association, Donal Barry, chairperson, Sean O’Donovan and Edward Mc Sweeney travelled to the RDS for the announcement of the National Tidy Towns awards on Friday last. It was most pleasing to see Timoleague on the commended list and being awarded a silver medal. The village has been among the medal winners since making the breakthrough with the winning of a bronze medal in 2013. A silver was last won in 2015.We have remained in the bronze medal position since then. It is indeed a great vote of confidence to the hard- working committee members backed up by a dedicated team of local people who have always been at hand to maintain Timoleague’s position on the honours list. Over the past few years with Covid restrictions in place, the work of the Tidy Towns was more challenging and it is reassuring that work at ground level in and around the village is recognised.
Timoleague were awarded a total of 358 marks this year, an increase of 18 from the previous year. That in itself is a remarkable achievement made possible by so many people who undertake so many tasks to enhance their native village and maintain its status among the prize winners.
The adjudicator visited “Timoleague, an idyllic setting overlooking a beautiful coastal landscape on a fine sunny, warm morning in July” Over the next few weeks there will be extracts from the adjudicator’s report included in there notes and residents can see for themselves what others think of us and our little hamlet.
