Santa’s Arrival
Santa came to Timoleague on Saturday night last. He was making a quick dash through West-Cork to familiarise himself with his journey next week-end. He enlisted the services of The Coastal Rescue Jeep and he arrived at the village centre which was thronged with children eager to see the man himself. Local singers entertained the crowd before his arrival with festive carols. Once Santa arrived, that quickly put an end to the singing programme. The main man chatted with the young children and distributed sweets. Santa then marched down Abbey Street followed by a hoard of delighted children – a scene reminiscent of The Pied Piper of Hamlin.
All then entered The Community Hall where treats awaited. Chairperson of Timoleague Tidy Towns, Donal Barry thanked all who had helped the organisation during the year, which had resulted in Timoleague being awarded a silver medal. He also thanked all those who had given of their time in organising the Christmas party, not forgetting those who had very generously donated prizes for the hampers.
A memorable night was enjoyed by all as friends and neighbours chatted and feasted after an absence of two years as normal service was resumed once more.
Erection of Christmas Lights
One of Santa’s first duties was to officially switch on the Christmas Light. A core group of local volunteers had worked over the previous few nights in freezing cold conditions in erecting the lights on the village streets. These unsung heroes go about their duty in a quiet and unassuming manner in making our village bright and colourful for the festive season. The Timoleague Community thank Gerald Madden, Donie O’Callaghan, Ogie Crowley, Noel Walsh, Partrick Harte, Niall O’Donovan, Derek Long, Denis O’Leary, Micheal O’Mahony, Michael Mc Carthy,Declan Nyhan,Tadgh Crowley and John Walsh. for their voluntary labour and community spirit. The final act was the placing of the Christmas tree in its usual prominent position beside the crib.
