Junior Football League
January 11, 2023
The Timoleague footballers have been rather envious of their hurling counterparts for some time. Results dictate the standard of competition that a team participates in. While the hurlers play teams of similar standard within the county, the footballers were confined to playing in a local league competition that contained a number of club’s second teams with some games unplayed for various reasons. Last season, management and players resolved to taking the league more seriously with a view of gaining promotion. Significant progress was being made at championship level over the last few seasons but more meaningful games in the league were seen as a priority if Argideen football was to make meaningful progress. Success in winning the league and reaching the final of the West Cork for the first time since 1994 were indications that the footballers meant business.
This year with the regrouping of the football leagues by the county board, a new division 7 section was added and Argideen have gained a place in this league as a result of their endeavours in 2022. Seven teams, namely Cullen, St James, Ballyclough, Ballinhassig, Aghinagh, Castlemagner and St. Michael’s complete this grouping, so the footballers and management of Argideen can look forward to travelling to some exotic locations around the county during March, April, May and June. The dates for all games are fixed which makes forward planning easier for all. This is a serious step up for Argideen and they won’t be found wanting.
