Ibane Gaels Celebration
March 21, 2023
On a tremendous night in Fernhill House Hotel, last year's successful Ibane Gaels teams were feted. The minor and adult ladies as well as the U17 and U21 hurlers and footballers were honoured. The U17s were presented with their divisional medals and commended on reaching the county hurling final. The U21 hurlers and footballers achieved a unique 'A' grade double in West-Cork last year and no doubt would have advanced in a county competition, had there been one in place. MC for the evening, Peter Fleming, gave a glowing introduction to special guest and Cork GAA legend Seán Óg O' hAilpín who presented the prized medals on a memorable night for the club.
Sean Og, who is more readily known by his Christian name rather than his surname -surely the sign of national recognition endeared himself to his audience very quickly. He gave a fantastic address to the young lads and lasses and one could not but be impressed by what he said. While some of the younger people present might not know of his full list of achievements, master of ceremonies Peter Fleming rattled off his impressive CV and they knew well that they were in the company of greatness.
A fact worthy of mention was the dress code observed by those who were being honoured. With such attention to detail, it comes as no great surprise that these Ibane players enjoyed such success on the playing fields during last season. A great night was had by all 220 guests. Here’s to 2023.
