St. James of Ardfield visited Timoleague in a rescheduled league fixture on Wednesday of last week. The first half was nip and tuck with the home side playing into a stiff easterly wind. Some driving runs from Darragh Holland and smart play from midfielders Bill Fleming and Andrew Guinivan were just some of the first half highlights as Ardfield led 4 points to 3. The game opened up after the short whistle with some great play by the home side. The surging runs and pace of Ger Crowley, Philip Flynn, Darragh Holland and Bill Fleming produced plenty of openings. Smart play from Ger Crowley created an overlap before he fed Danny Lawton who coolly slotted home a great goal. More scores from Lorcan O' Leary, Bill Fleming and Danny Lawton again sealed a comfortable 1-12 to 0-7 point win. Team; Alan O' Leary, Sean Henchion, Joe Murphy, Finbarr Butler, Matthew Lawton, Ger Crowley, Sean Maxwell, Bill Fleming, Andrew Guinivan, Conor Lehane, Cathal O' Donovan, Philip O' Flynn, Danny Lawton, Darragh Holland, Mark Henchion. Subs used; John Michael O' Callaghan, Lorcan O Leary and Richie Smith.
It was a quick turnaround and a long journey to north Cork to play Ballyclough on Sunday morning last. It was a disastrous start with three key players substituted having picked up injuries within the first 15 minutes. The home side were gifted a goal from a misplaced pass but some good scores from Darragh Holland and Lorcan O' Leary meant the deficit was 1-3 to 0-3 at half time. After half time Argideen continued to hold possession and had some fine scores from Conor Lehane, Finbarr Butler and Bill Fleming. However a sucker punch of a second goal killed the game and the home side ran out 2-08 to 0-8 winners. Team; Alan O' Leary, Darragh O' Donovan, Joe Murphy, Eoghan Guinivan, Matthew Lawton, Ger Crowley, Sean Maxwell, Bill Fleming, Andrew Guinivan, Finbarr Butler, Conor Lehane, Sean Henchion, Philip O' Flynn, John Michael O' Callaghan and Darragh Holland. Subs used; Lorcan O' Leary, Danny Lawton and Eoin Lawton. It will be another trip to north Cork on Saturday 29th as the Argideen Rangers hurling team play All Ireland Champions Ballygiblin in Mitchelstown. Supporters will remember the narrow loss in Riverstown last Autumn and will be hoping to maintain top spot in the league. The game was originally a home fixture but will throw in at 2pm in Mitchelstown.
