Kieran elected to NPA Board
Kieran Keohane of Carhue was elected on to the board of The National Ploughing Association at their annual meeting last week. Kieran has been active in all levels of ploughing administration over many years. The Keohane family are steeped in the ploughing tradition and his father Donal and Uncle Ted passed on the love of the soil to young Kieran. He started at local level with Timoleague Ploughing where his potential was recognised and his graduation to West-Cork and regional committees came as no surprise. He is following in the footsteps of local ploughing hierarchy as Dan Connolly, Paddy Madden and John Sexton were also members of the board of the NPA in the past.
Kieran is congratulated on his election and wished well. The people who came before him would indeed be proud.
May Rosary
Now that the month of May has arrived, the rosary will be recited each evening at Our Lady’s Well at 8pm. People at training or on collection duty are asked not to park cars in front of the well or Astro as that parking space is needed for those participating at prayers.
Timoleague Educational Garden
The Educational Garden Project has gone from strength to strength over the past four months. What started out as a small plot of unused land has been turned into a beautiful garden, thanks to the countless hours of work put in by community members and local school pupils backed up by generous support of sponsors and doners.
On Sunday last, An Open Day – Garden Gathering Fundraiser was held at the Community Garden. The weather was ideal and the facility looked its best under perfect climatic conditions. A large crowd attended and those present were treated to a tour of the wonderful facility by the team behind the concept. Plants and shrubs were on sale and visitors had an opportunity to chat over a cup of tea and coffee and feast on some delightful cakes and savouries which were on offer.
The organisers were especially delighted to welcome Joy Larkcom, who was their special guest for the occasion. Those with an interest in gardening will know that Joy is a world- renowned gardener. The eighty-five-year-old English woman, the grand old lady of gardening, was described by The Daily Telegraph as having “had more effect on the way we grow and eat salads and vegetables than all the celebrity chefs put together”. Joy has been involved in community gardens for many years not only in her native England but also in the United States. She has published many books on gardening and is generally considered one of the foremost experts on the subject. She has been resident locally for many years and expressed her delight at the wonderful garden at Timoleague. She wished the organisers well and expressed her hope that those who use and visit the garden will be enriched by the experience.
