Station Masses
The station mass in the home for Spring and autumn was very much part of the life of the church in the community. Due to covid 19 the station mass in homes has not been possible. As an interim arrangement, Fr. John Kingston invites you to a station mass at Clogagh Church on Wednesday next, May 17th at 7.30pm. and at The Community Centre, Timoleague on Thursday May 18th. at 7.30pm. You are welcome to attend both or the mass that suits you best. After the mass there will be an opportunity to chat over a cup of tea.
Tidy Towns
Preparation for this year’s Tidy Towns adjudication is in full swing at present. Groups of volunteers are out attending to the areas of the village and approach roads that need some tender, loving care. Wednesday is the designated “meitheal” night and if you have an hour to spare why not come along to the Abbey Street Car-Park at 7pm. -you will be more than welcome and you can join the other local volunteers for a cuppa and a chat afterwards at the Educational Garden. If you are unable to join the Wednesday gang, make contact with one of the officers and you can pick and choose a time of your choice. A wise Chinese man of old once said that “many hands make light work”. Now is the time to put that concept into action.
Post Office Retirement
News has just broken of the retirement of postmistress Brenda O’Driscoll from Timoleague Post Office. Retirements and Post Offices, especially in rural Ireland are a controversial subject to say the least. The closure of many rural post-offices has sucked the life blood out of many communities. Brenda has been a constant behind the counter since taking over from Mrs. Tessie Madden at Timoleague. Her friendly nature and pleasant disposition have endeared her to all who came in the door. Her departure will take time to come to terms with, but in the overall context, we must keep in mind that nothing stays the same.
Brenda, more readily known by her maiden name in Timoleague is wished long health and happiness in her retirement. An Post are now seeking applications for the position with a closing date of May 19th. One might consider the closing date a little soon, but that does not surprise, knowing the firm involved. More time to digest and consider might certainlybe more beneficial. It is hoped that a suitable replacement can be appointed so that the long and proud history of the postal service at Timoleague can be maintained into the future.
