Michael Griffin RIP
The recent death of Michael Griffin of Bishopstown caused much sorrow among his neighbours and friends and members of Argideen Rangers GAA. Michael of Ballinroher, joined Timoleague GAA club in its formative years. He played in goal with the footballers and was a member of the team in the late sixties and early seventies. In 1970 he played a starring role guarding the goal in the first- round victory over St. Mary’s in the junior 1 football championship. The team was beaten by Bandon in the next round at Ballinspittle. It should be noted that this was Bandon’s first team at that time which gives an indication of the high standard that the local club were playing at the time.
Michael also served as an officer of the Timoleague club and was treasurer in 1969 and 1970. This was a busy time for the club and Michael was one of the chief organisers of the annual South West GAA Convention which was held at The GAA Rooms at Abbey Streetin January 1970. This was a first for Timoleague who welcomed the Gaels of West-Cork to the village.
Sincere sympathy is offered to his wife and family, to his sisters and brothers and their extended families. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Tidy Towns
The annual litter challenge is up and running at present. Members of Timoleague Tidy Towns Association are appealing to all home owners to make a special effort over the coming weeks to attend to any litter that may be evident in their vicinity. Groups of volunteers can be seen attending to the many improvements that are needed to have Timoleague looking its best as adjudication day looms near.
If you would like to be actively involved in this community effort, you will be welcomed with open arms. A “meitheal” takes place each Wednesday night with volunteers gathering at The Abbey Car-Park at 7pm. If the time is inconvenient, members of the Tidy Towns would be delighted to accompany you at a time of your choosing. Members of clubs and organisations in the area are also actively involved in attending to improving the appearance of the locality.
Local Player Success
A number of local boys and girls have enjoyed much success on the playing fields of late. Pride of place goes to Cliona Harte who is blazing a trail with the Cork Under 14 team at present. Last week-end they beat Cavan in Roscommon in the All-Ireland Semi-Final Series. This competition involves much travel around the country but the long drives are a labour of love for proud parents Emer and Bill. She carries the best wishes of all in the upcoming All-Ireland Final.
Congratulations also to Johnny Foley and his team mates, Riley O’Donovan and Conrad Murphy who won the Carbery Under 14 football kicking skills competition at Skibbereen last week. The competition is organised by Rebel Og as part of their football skills development programme.
