Corpus Christi
The annual Corpus Christi procession will take place on Sunday next after a lapse of a few years due to Covid restrictions. Mass will be celebrated in Timoleague church on Sunday next June 11th at 11.30am. The procession will proceed through the village after the 11.30am mass. It will travel down Chapel hill and proceed over Mill Street before going down Mill Hill. It will then go up School Road and continue along Abbey Street. At the village centre it will proceed along Main Street before finishing at the Grotto by the Chapel Steps.
Householders along the route are asked to co-operate in any way possible to facilitate the procession. This is always a very colourful and solemn church ceremony and it is reassuring that the tradition is being maintained.
Re-scheduling of Masses
As parishioners are aware major changes have been made to week-end masses in the parish. The new re-scheduling within the Family of Parishes pertaining to Timoleague has caused quite a degree of anger and disappointment at recent developments. Foremost among these concerns was the loss of a Sunday mass at Timoleague, without consultation – the only parish church in the Family of Parishes without a Sunday mass. Also of concern is the change of times of masses at Clogagh and Timoleague while others within the Family of Parishes remain unchanged.
Tidy Towns
Great work is being done around the village at present so that Timoleague will be at its best as adjudication for the National Tidy Towns Competition draws near. The anti-litter competition organised by Cork County Council is now well underway. The first results available indicate that there is some more attention needed to the village streets and backways. Foremost among the concerns is the concentration of cigarette buttsat certain areas within the village. People are asked to be more mindful of discarding the said offensive objects in public areas. While great efforts are being made in relation to the minimizing of litter, we seem to be falling down in relation to the blatant disregard shown by smokers to our pretty village.
