Eucharistic Procession
The annual Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession returned to the streets of Timoleague on Sunday morning last after a lapse of a few years due to covid. The Lord organised the weather and local parishioners had a hands- on approach in relation to logistics. The procession began after the 11.30am mass. Michael Heaney led the way with his bag pipes followed by Fr. Kingston who carried the Blessed Sacrament under a canopy carried by four stewards who interchanged at intervals throughout the procession. The rosary was recited and hymns were sung as a large group of parishioners and visitors followed behind.
The procession went down Chapel Hill, over Mill Street and down Mill Hill. It then went up School Road and Abbey Street before heading over Main Street and finished at the Grotto at The Chapel Steps. Benediction was celebrated there before Fr. Kingston returned The Blessed Sacrament to the church. Afterwards, all present were invited to The Canon Fleming Hall for refreshments provided by The Parish Council. Discussions over a cuppa traced the history of the Eucharistic Procession in Timoleague. Gerard Madden distributed photographs of the 2001 event which were taken by German tourists on the day. Participants were identified, sadly some no longer with us, others it can be said have aged gracefully. It is pleasing that the present generation are maintaining the tradition despite the imposition of the busy commercial and domestic lives of people today.

Punchestown Success
Local trainer Padraig Butler had great success at the Punchestown meeting on Saturday afternoon last. Da Capo Glory got a nose in front at the line to win the Oak Lodge Landscapers Hurdle by a neck. The horse owned by The Red Strand Syndicate came home in a field of five at even money favourite with MP O’Connor in the saddle. Da Cappo has now won three races for the Cregane trainer.
To end a highly successful week-end, Padraig played a starring role for Argideen hurlers in their win over Mayfield in the city on Sunday morning. He was joined on the team by his younger brother Finbarr. There is a bit of a Jamesey Kelleher in Padraig. Jamesey was native of Dungourney and was a renowned point to point rider and trainer and played in seven All-Ireland hurling finals, winning in 1902 and ’03. You are in good company Padraig!
