The Junior footballers of Argideen Rangers had a successful conclusion to their league programme with a home win over St. Michaels of Blackrock last Saturday afternoon. It was a must win game over the table toppers that guaranteed Argideen their league status for next year. They started with intent, when playing into the Timoleague village side goals, Darragh Holland, Lorcan O' Leary (from play and from placed balls) and Paudie Butler all had superb points. Darragh Holland struck over a 45' and all was rosy when Lorcan O' Leary tucked away a goal to lead by 1-10 to 0-6 at half time. The humid conditions didn't deter the home side as they had most of the possession in the second half. They had many chances to put the game to bed and will want to rectify some wayward finishing as it kept St. Michaels in the game. Paudie Butler and Andrew Guinevan were dominant at midfield as was substitute Jack Lawton who was making his much- welcomed return to play after a long injury layoff. Some good defending by Sean Maxwell, Bill Fleming, Ger Crowley and Michael O' Callaghan in goal helped to steady the ship as the home side won 1-14 to 0-11. Team; Michael O' Callaghan, Seán Maxwell, Joe Murphy, Finbarr Butler, Cathal O' Donovan, Ger Crowley, Bill Fleming, Andrew Guinevan, Paudie Butler, Danny Lawton, Darragh Holland, John Michael O' Callaghan,Colin Smith, Lorcan O' Leary and Philip O' Flynn . Subs used; Dan Hurley and Jack Lawton.
The final hurling league game takes place next Sunday 25th at 11.30 in Cloughduv. An Argideen Rangers win against the home side should secure a league final berth and promotion to Division 4. As always, support is greatly appreciated for the challenge.
