Fit Up Theatre
The first production by the ever -popular Fit-Up Theatre at Timoleague this year was held at The Community Hall on Thursday night last. A full capacity audience were left gob-smacked by the brilliant performance of Seamus O’Rourke in The Ballad of Mossie Flood, which was written and directed by Seamus.
This week’s production which will be performed on Thursday night, Aug.3rd. is “Sean Moylan – Irish Revolutionary”. This will appeal to all those who have an interest in Irish history, especially at this time with the centenary of the War of Independence and The Civil War still fresh in people’s memory.
Sean Moylan gave a detailed account of his memory of the War of Independence to The Bureau of Military History which gives a clear insight into the mind of a revolutionary leader. It is precise, passionate, funny and painful. This play is one man’s account of key events during this period. A man who sacrificed, suffered and risked his life for his country. It is a tribute to him and to all who volunteered, many who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to their families who bear it.
The play is written by Michael Patric and is directed by Geoff Gould. Michael will also play the part of Sean Moylan in the production.
Patrons are asked to be present and seated by 8pm.
Equine Success
Talking of horses, local trainer Padraig Butler had a fantastic result at Limerick on Thursday last when Hard Rain 7/2, ridden by JJ Slevin, won a handicap hurdle for a local syndicate. This was a change of fortune for the newly acquired horse at the Butler stables.
This week is Galway Race Week and Padraig is having a go at The Guinness Hurdle on Thursday at 5pm. Da Capo Glory is being given his chance in this prestigious race with a field dominated by leading trainers Gordon Elliot and Willie Mullins not to mention Noel Meade. Da Capo will be ridden by MP O’Connor and is available at 33/1.
Our Lady’s Well
As the 15th. of August approaches, local interest focuses on Our Lady’s Well on the outskirts of the village at Lettercollum. The shrine is a place of worship frequented by many on the 15th. of August. Benediction is held each year in the afternoon and at times mass is also celebrated. This year our local priest, Fr. John Kingston will celebrate mass at The Well at 4pm.
