50th Timoleague Festival
The 50th. Timoleague Harvest Festival, to give its original title, begins on Friday next, August 18th. This year the hard -working committee have put together a most comprehensive programme of events with something to suit all ages and tastes. The ever- popular bingo in the Community Hall will get the week started with a €200 going jackpot on offer.
On Saturday the Kieran Cullinane Cup will be played for at Our Lady’s Well Sports Complex at 5pm. Saturday night is Ladies Night with “Queens of Style” – a night of fashion and fun at The Community Hall beginning at 7pm. Music on the Street will be by The Kilkennys, who need no introduction to Timoleague festival groupies!
On Sunday afternoon, from 2 to 4pm there will be a Family Fun Day in Abbey Street with “An Open Air Disco and Dance Explosion” demonstration.
The Adult Fancy Dress will take place at 7.30pm followed by the official opening of the festival by Elaine Houlihane, National President of Macra na Feirme. It is indeed fitting that the Macra president is doing the honours this year as those responsible for the purchase of the building which is now The Community Hall were the leading members of Timoleague Macra na Feirme back in 1973.
Niall O’Sullivan will be on disco duty on the street with a ‘70’s and 80’s disco. later in the night.
On Monday night at The Church of The Ascension, The White Horse Gospel Choir from Ballincollig will perform at 7.30pm.
The GAA Table Quiz will be held at Pad Joes’Bar and at Charlie Madden’s Bar on Tuesday night beginning at 8pm. Both village venues will be connected live and this quiz is a must for serious and social quizzers.
On Wednesday night, the unique Timoleague spectacle Pig Racing will take place. This ever -popular event has been associated with Timoleague over many years and is eagerly looked forward to by locals and visitors alike. It will be held at Abbey Streeet, beginning at 8.30pm.
In the afternoon, there will be a Children’s Chalk Drawing Competition at Abbeyside at 3pm. Tractor and Go-Cart Racing for under 8’s and under v12’s will be held at Abbey Street. Music on the Street will be by popular local entertainer Thomas O’Leary. Thomas will begin after the end of the pig racing.
Showband Show Concert
A few tickets are still available for this Showband Memories event at The Community Hall on Thursday, August 24th at 8pm. This features Frankie Mc Donald and Keith Mc Donald on vocals and will be a trip down memory lane for many who danced the nights away to the top showbands a number of years ago. Why not be transported back “botharin na smaointe” for old time sake!
