HurlingChampionship
Argideen Rangers played their second match in the Premier Junior Hurling Championship last Saturday evening against Erin's Own in Cloughduv. After the opening day win over Tracton, a win would have meant progression to the knockout stages. Finbarr Butler got the team off to a great start with a ground shot from distance that billowed that back of the net. He was on top form and quickly followed up with a point from play. Further points from Paudie Butler, Darragh Holland and John Michael O' Callaghan ensured a goal lead approaching half time. However, Erin's Own scored preventable goals either side of half time and these proved crucial to the eventual outcome. Try as Argideen might, they could not reproduce the same high performance from the first half, and combined with wayward shooting, the points went to Erin's Own on a 2-12 to 1-13 scoreline. A full report on the game will appear elsewhere in the sports pages. The players have a must-win final group game against Glen Rovers on September 1st.
However, they must now turn their attention to football with the second group game against Bandon on Sunday 20th. After the opening day defeat against Kilmaceabea, a win is essential and your support is appreciated. Throw-in is at 12 noon in Castletownkeinnigh. .
