Abbey Street Upgrade
One of the last eye-sores in Timoleague village will be addressed soon. The road surface at Abbey Street is badly in need of a face lift and its state of disrepair is further highlighted by the pristine surface of the other village streets. The original plan was that Abbey Street was to be resurfaced after Mill Hill was attended to. The council engineering department now propose to put in two raised crossings in the village, one at the village centre and the other at the junction of Abbey Street and School Road. This will provide a safer route for children walking to school and will also act as a traffic calming measure, which is long overdue. This work needed special permission and the processing of this takes time as do most planning applications. The good news is that permission has now been granted and the work will hopefully begin next month. When completed it will enhance the streetscape of the village adding further to its appeal.
