Ibane U17 Football
October 03, 2023
Ibane under 17 footballers suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the West Cork final replay at Rosscarbery on Sunday afternoon last. Readers will recall that in the drawn game Ibane struck for a late goal to stay in the hunt. On this occasion the boot was on the other foot. Ibane were leading by two points entering the last few minutes but as is often the case, a game is never over until the fat lady sings. She left it late! Castlehaven mounted a final raid on the Ibane rearguard and earned a penalty which was converted. They were now up a point but there was still hope. However, Ibane conceded a 45 which was also converted and as they say, that was that, leaving the final score at 1-8 to 0-9.
At the end there was obvious heartbreak for the Ibane lads and their mentors. However, when the dust settled, there are many positives to be taken from the two encounters. They are a very talented team with an outstanding backroom setup at their disposal. They will learn from this and they will come back next season bigger and better as a result. You have done your yourselves, your parents and club proud during this campaign. You will get up on the horse again and the world will be your oyster.
