Hurling Win
Liam McCarthy Park was the venue for the opening round of the Red FM Division 5 hurling league match last Sunday morning. Ballygarvan, on their home turf, opened brightly and had an early goal before some fine points by Argideen Rangers midfielder Conor Lehane and wing back Cathal O' Donovan. The home side led by 1-08 to 0-7 at half time. They stretched their lead further after the resumption and led by 5 points at one stage. Some fine long -range points from John Michael O' Callaghan, Colin Smith and Sean Maxwell narrowed the gap. Finbar Butler scored a peach of a goal after soloing half the pitch before Sean Maxwell slung over two beauties from the sideline to level the match entering the final quarter. The full forward line bundled home a goal with ten minutes to go to put Argideen two points up and some excellent defending by Fergal Walsh, Matty Lawton and John Sheehan helped seal a 2-15 to 1-17 win and two league points. Team; John Sheehan, Charlie Dinneen, Ger Crowley, Fergal Walsh, Andrew Guinevan, Matty Lawton, Cathal O' Donovan, Darragh Holland, Conor Lehane, Sean Maxwell, John Michael O' Callaghan, Finbarr Butler, Darragh O' Donovan, Colin Smith and Mark Henchion.
