Rally Fever
Rally fever gripped the area last week-end as the ever- popular West Cork Rally was held. This year, two night stages were a feature of the event and many followers went in the Ballinascarthy direction to witness the spectacle. Timoleague was a hive of activity on Saturday as the rally cars passed through the village on their way to the start of a stage at Abbeymahon. The weather was not so kind but that didn’t seem to bother the sporting enthusiasts who travel from all over Ireland to follow their sport of choice. Standing on a ditch at Abbeymahon we chatted to followers from Wexford, Tipperary and far away Donegal. The rain didn’t hinder their enjoyment.
Ploughing Disappointment
The annual Timoleague ploughing match was once again put on hold as the constant rain during the past week made ground conditions too soft for ploughing. The organisers will face some difficulties in the weeks ahead as quite a few matches have to be rescheduled, but it won’t always be raining!
Timoleague Daffodil Day
A timely reminder that the annual Daffodil Day fundraiser for The Irish Cancer Society will be held in Timoleague on Friday next, March 22nd. Daffodils will be on sale during the day and donation boxes will be at the village centre and at Foley’s Centra. A coffee morning will be held at Timoleague Community Hall on Sunday, March 24th from 11am. Donations of baking would be greatly appreciated. The Irish Cancer society provides vital services to support those affected by cancer throughout Ireland. Please donate what you can to this worthy cause.
Cork Honour for Robert
Congratulations to Robert Leahy who has been named on the Cork Primary Football team to play Limerick on Sunday April 7th. This is a phenomenal achievement for the young Timoleague star to be named as 1 of the 11 boys in the county to be chosen to play on the Cork team. Robert is wished the best on April 7th. and here’s hoping that it is only the beginning of greater things for this young man.
Cork Under 15 Camogie
So as not to let the lads get all the limelight, two local sports girls, Sinead O’Callaghan and Cliona Harte have been selected on the Cork Under 15 Camogie panel for 2024. Both are congratulated on their achievement as they embark on their intercounty sporting career.
