Primary Game Success:
In schools throughout Munster, pupils eagerly await the arrival of the Munster hurling and football championships as it also heralds the start of the Munster GAA Primary Inter County Games. It affords 6th class pupils the opportunity to wear their county jersey sharing the spotlight with their inter county heroes and crowd of supporters.Schools are invited to nominate just one boy and one girl for either football, hurling or camogie. The nominated pupils have to go through a rigorous selection process before gaining a place on the team.
Congratulations to Mr Michael Mennis of Scoil Molaga who has been successful in having 2 out of 2 nominees make it through the selection process to have Timoleague NS on both match programmes lining out in the coveted Cork jersey. Robert Leahy played with the Cork Primary Schools team during the Cork v Limerick football game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh recently. Aoife Harte has gained a place on the Cork camogie team and will line out on May 19th. when Cork play Tipperary at Semple Stadium, Thurles. They carry the good wishes of all at Argideen Rangers, Timoleague and here’s hoping it is only the start of a great sporting career for both.
Ploughing Match:
Timoleague ploughing match was eventually held on Sunday last after being held captive by the rain on more than one occasion over the past few months. Competitors were well pleased with arrangements on the day and thanks was expressed to Niall and Rosaline O’Donovan of Garrendruig on whose land the ploughing took place.
Spring Litter Pick:
The annual KWD County Clean Up was held at Timoleague last week-end. Groups of people of all ages took to the highways and byways as litter on all the approach roads was collected and bagged. This event kick starts the work of the Tidy Towns in Timoleague each year. A reminder to all that the weekly meitheal will take place each Tuesday night. Volunteers are asked to gather near The Community Hall at 7pm where details of the work to be undertaken will be given. An all-out effort is required if Timoleague is to gain further marks in this year’s competition.
Grant Aid Secured:
Much welcomed grant aid has been secured by three local organisations of late. Argideen Rangers GAA has received €10,000 from Cork County Council to help fund the laying of tarmacadam on the walking track around the perimeter of the Sports Complex at Lettercollum.
Timoleague Community Association have been awarded a grant of €15,000 to fund work on The Village Green. This badly needed project has been in the pipe line for some time and its completion is eagerly awaited.
Timoleague Tidy Towns also received a grant of €1,800 from Cork County Council. This will help fund the digitalisation of the Abbey Brochure which is available free of charge at the entrance to The Abbey. It will also help to fund the purchase of a leaf blower.
All in Timoleague are most thankful to Cork County Council and particularly to John O’Sullivan, our local councillor for this funding. Rest assured it will all be put to good use for the betterment of the local community.
