Community notes June 22nd
June 26, 2024
Duck Race Change:
Timoleague Tidy Towns have changed the date of their annual fundraising duck racefrom Saturday next June 22nd. to Sunday July 21st. The organisers have experienced difficulty in sourcing good quality ducks and the tide will also be more suitable in mid July. The extra time will give the committee greater flexibilitywith the training of the ducks so that they become more accustomed to the waters of The Argideen. The attention to detail of the race organisers is extraordinary.
Successful Fundraising Launch for The Green:
The Community Hall was packed on Sunday morning last for the official fundraising launch of The Green project. As most people know, this exceptional amenity in the heart of the village is badly in the need of some tender loving care. The surface is to be broken up and drained as it is prone to a lot of water retention and is unsuitable as a play area for the school children for long periods of time. It will then be raised and new top soil added before being reseeded. Work will begin after the conclusion of this year’s festival.
A coffee morning and raffle began at 12 noon and as an added attraction the walls of the hall were decorated with photos of yesteryear and those in attendance had an opportunity of taking a glimpse into the past as the pictorial history contained local personalities and places. It aroused great excitement and interest and the organisers are planning to have a repeat exhibition during the annual Timoleague Harvest Festival which will be held from the 9th to the 19th of August.
