Vintage Ploughing and Threshing:
The West Cork Vintage Ploughing and Threshing working day will be held at Kilavarrig on Sunday next, July 21st. An action-packed programme is on offer and there will be something for all to be enjoyed. Derek Burke of Crystal Swing fame will provide live music during the day. There will be Dyno Testing and a live cattle auction and there will also be a monster raffle held. Vintage silage cutting, vintage combining and threshing as well as vintage ploughing will be displayed. There will also be a dog show. Rebel followers will also be able to see the All-Ireland Final between Cork and Clare on a giant screen in the afternoon.
Barefoot Baroque:
On Thursday night, July 18th. Barefoot Baroque will perform at The Church of the Ascension, Timoleague at 8.30pm. Entry is free and a donation can be made during the night. Barefoot Baroque are presently doing a tour of West Cork doing a series of informal concerts, “bringing the vibrant music of the baroque era to speak comfort and solace to our troubled world”. Tess Leak, Katy Salvidge, Camilla Griehsel, Gideon Wieck and Justin Grounds will be your hosts on a night that is not to be missed.
GAA Lottery:
There was no winner of the Argideen Rangers GAA club lotto jackpot last Sunday night at The Brewery Bar. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 9 and 17. Lucky dip prize winners included: Tim O' Regan, The Brewery Bar; Tadgh & Ger Crowley, Cregane; John and Mary Deasy, Burrane; Michael Heaney, Maryborough and Martin Middleton, Courtmacsherry.
Next week’s draw will take place at Pad Joe's Bar on Sunday night, July 21st at 9pm when the jackpot on offer will be €8450. Tickets at €2 each or 3 for €5 can be bought at Foley’s Centra, Pad Joe’s Bar, Monk’s Lane, Charlie Madden’s Bar, The Brewery Bar or from any club officer. Ibane Gaels League Winners:
Well done to the Ibane Gaels U18 hurlers who clinched the D1 league title last Sunday evening in Kilbrittain against Kinsale. Team; Sean Glynn, Cathal Hennessy, Dermot Dineen, Ben O’Dwyer, Mike Collins, Daniel Moloney, Adam Barry, Charlie Twomey, Kevin Hennessy, Robert Hennessy, Aaron Fleming, Luke Murphy, Dara Walsh, James Crowley and Jack Twomey. Subs: Jack Henchion, Jamie Collins, Dara Murphy and Dylan Kelly.
Next up for this group is Éire Óg in the hurling championship on July 24th.
Duck Race:
Timoleague Tidy Towns will hold their annual Duck Race on Sunday next, July 21st. This event is one of two that the Tidy Towns Association hold during the year. The duck race is governed by the tide and will get under way in the waters of The Argideen just above Church Bridge at 6pm. with the finish line in front of The Abbey. Hopefully the crowd will be in jubilant mood after the All-Ireland Hurling final. Ducks can be purchased at all local businesses at €5 each and all support is greatly appreciated. So why not come along to The Waterfront at tea time and partake in the fun and excitement.
Road Bowling:
Castletownkennigh was the venue last weekend for the All Ireland Road Bowling finals.
Ellen Sexton retained her Double U18 All Ireland title by a 2 bowls of odds win over Lily O Rourke Armagh. Ellen led all the way and added to her previous wins having won Succesive Munster titles from U12 / U14 / U16.
Geraldine Curtin, Carhue was so close in her Senior Score to lose out on the last shot to Deverla Mallon, Armagh for a €15.000 stake.
Laura Sexton won the South West Final in Lyre from Grace Ahern and is wished all the best in her upcoming County Scores.
In Barryshall Richie Harnedy won over Conny Connolly in the Veterans by the last shot for €750 a side.
