GAA action
The Argideen Rangers had a disappointing start to their PJHC in Belgooly last Sunday afternoon with defeat against St. Finbarrs. Playing into a strong first half breeze was challenging, and were it not for the heroics of John Sheehan in goal and some last ditch defending from Ger Crowley and Bill Fleming, the eight point halftime deficit would have been greater. A sucker punch of an early second half goal for the city side proved crucial and only increased the challenge. Try as Paudie Butler and Seán Walsh might (both with three points from play) along with two points from Darragh O' Donovan, the city side ran out 1-17 to 0-16 winners. The next hurling match is on August 23rd in a must win game against Glen Rovers and the players will know they need to improve on this lacklustre performance. Team; John Sheehan, Ger Crowley, Bill Fleming, Fergal Walsh, Dan Hurley, Matty Lawton, Andrew Guinivan, Conor Lehane, Cathal O' Donovan, Paudie Butler, Darragh Holland, John Michael O' Callaghan, Sean Walsh, Joe Murphy and Billy Foley. Subs used; Sean Maxwell, Darragh O' Donovan and Finbarr Butler. There is a break weekend upcoming, with the second round of the JAFC against Randal Óg on August 16th.
