Playground Re-Opens:
The playground at Timoleague has re-opened much to the delight of both children and parents. The playground was an integral part of Timoleague social life for many years but the ravages of time saw it display its age and put quite simply, it was not fit for purpose. Now Cork County Council have replaced some of the play apparatus and upgraded others. They have also given the whole area a deep clean and the site now looks as good as new.
It is hoped that it will be respected and well cared for by those who use it. It is great to hear the laughter of children coming from this area of the village once more and long may it be a source of enjoyment and entertainment for the young people who use it.
The Green:
The Green has been transformed as has been evident to all. Grass seed has been set and as luck would have it, the rain came at just the right time to hasten its growth. This week, those attending the fundraiser at Monk’s Lane on Friday night will be making a final bid to source some green attire for the gala occasion. The event is a sell out and those who left it to the last minute to procure tickets have been left majorly disappointed. The fundraising committee are to be commended for their initiative and foresight in relation to this major community project.
Abbey Floodlights:
Timoleague Abbey is looking resplendent at night once more with the floodlights back in action. As one drove over the causeway entering the village, the Abbey looked forlorn at night without being lit up. “Lone you are today and dismal” so wrote Sir Samuel Ferguson in his translation of the epic poem, Caoineadh Tigh Molaga by Sean O’Coileain. Now this problem has been attended to and solved. Local electrician, Brendan O’Sullivan of Ardmore has done the needful and the Abbey is once again seen at its best at night. Timoleague Community Association has stepped up to the plate and solved the problem that officialdom had been kicking down the road for some considerable time.
