Landscaping of The Green
The Green has been transformed with major upgrading work completed. Last week two local community volunteers, Cathal Dineen and Gavin Moore did further landscaping work which will enhance it further. They planted thirteen trees just inside the wall on School Road and others inside the path beside the main road. The trees mainly comprise of birch with a mixture of maple and cherry to add a nice variety of colour and texture to this beautiful amenity in the heart of the village.

Argideen Player Honoured
During half time in last Sunday’s Senior Football Final, the UCC football team that won the county title in 1999 beating Nemo Rangers after a replay, were honoured. Argideen stalwart, Alan O’Leary was among his former team mates for the happy occasion as the jubilee anniversary was celebrated.Alan repeated that feat in 2004 when he came on in the second half as Carbery beat Bishopstown in the final. He was joined on that occasion by his club mate Liam Harte who was also introduced into the action in the second half.
The young at heart, Alan O’Leary was in outstanding form between the posts at Timoleague the following day, as Argideen played Ballinascarthy in the junior “C” football championship. However, Alan’s heroics were not enough to prevent a one point defeat for the home side. What an outstanding club man Argideen Rangers have in the tall Carhue native.
Business Closure
A number of weeks ago we made mention of the closures of many retail outlets in rural towns and villages. While it was gratifying to write about the opening of a new business office in Timoleague of late, now comes the sad news of the closure of the well established and universally renowned Ummera Smoked Products at Inchybridge. Anthony Creswell after a lifetime of dedicated service in the artisan food industry has decided to take a well- earned rest. The company was founded by Anthony’s father Keith. The business grew and under Anthony’s leadership it expanded and flourished gaining a national and international presence in the smoked products industry. After fifty years of dedicated service, may you enjoy many years of health and happiness in your retirement. Thanks Anthony.
